On Sunday, March 13, 2016, I drove to Oklahoma City to have lunch with Mandy and Robert. We had fun sharing a little time together and after about an hour, I headed on to Rogers, Arkansas, to spend the week with my cousin, Anita Sue. I traveled a route that I had not driven before and, even though I was bombarded with rain a couple of times, really enjoyed the journey. Arkansas is such a beautiful state, especially in the northwest.
Anita and I have known each other since early childhood. Our mothers were best friends so we shared many experiences and have many memories. I simply wanted to come back to Arkansas and chill out with her for a week and am so glad that I did.
We started our week with going to Eureka Springs for the day. Even though it is a winding road to travel both ways, we really had a good time. We had lunch and did some light window shopping of sorts. Actually we made it out of there without spending any money.
On Tuesday we had a delightful lunch at a place called The Briar Rose. The food was so good, especially the cake that we splurged on! Afterwards we hit a few antique stores and had fun looking at all of the things we didn't need.
I could sum up the next couple of days with the joy of meeting Anita's friends. She has tons of them just like me. However, this time I met friends from her book club, her Bible Study and then some friends who came over for wine and cheese. They were all delightful and so welcoming. I really needed to be surrounded by these caring personalities and grateful for how they kept me focused on good times.
On Friday, Anita and I went to get our hair cut and colored in Fayetteville. I was so glad to get some of my color back! This was followed by a fantastic hamburger at a local cafe right next door. Even the cold rain did not dampen our spirits. :)
Saturday morning was my day of departure. I had such a great time with my cousin and hated to leave her. However, the one I really dreaded leaving was her little Westie, Mac! He and I bonded quite well and it was hard to tell him good-bye.
The day was topped off by my getting to stop by Oklahoma City again where I got to have breakfast with Robert and a short visit with Mandy. I had a safe trip back to Texas and am very thankful for a wonderful trip.
